Yes, a big surprise. This is a nicely made book and full of interesting material. NOT a how-to-aiki, but a HOW-TO think and research your own development. REALLY worth the money!!!

This is to announce the publication of “The Art of Ju-jutsu,” the most comprehensive volume on yoseikan budo ever produced in the English language.
...
That is a nice site, Chris.
Some nice, clean videos that cover the topic very well, load without problems, easy to see, very clear.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

My father was a county deputy and assistant sheriff for 24 years, so I grew up surrounded by deputies and the Sheriff, himself. I know what it's about and I appreciate your service.
Best to you.

Incredible stuff, Kit.
I hope you've recovered fully from your encounter.
Best to you.

Yes, and Luigi Carniel is also an excellent source of detailed information on all things related to Minoru Mochizuki's yoseikan and KSR as taught both by Mochizuki Sensei and by Sugino Sensei.

I know of six seated and six standing iai, the four standing kumi-tachi I named above (not iai--sword already drawn). I learned all of those and some sword-against-bo forms. I believe there are six...
Xavier, I'm not familiar with tsuki uchi no kata. Is that a karate-type form, like happo ken?
It may be that Floquet Sensei devised that tanto form himself, maybe based on tsuki uchi. And it's...
The omo plata escape is very cool. The cartwheel-past-guard looks even more like capoeira. I think capoeira must have a very pervading influence in Brazilian jujutsu. I see some of that in the old...
!!!!
Weird.

That kind of thing is what brazillian jujutsu is all about, based on the judo they got more than 100 years ago.
I got my judo shodan in Japan, from the Kodokan, facing only one opponent: a...
Definitely not a standard judo waza, but I think Kano would have given it a thumbs-up. Mochizuki would have laughed and slapped his knee before giving thumbs up.

But the acrobat landed on top of him in position for yoko gatame. Looked like maybe capoeira but he put the other guy flat on his back and himself right on top in yoko gatame. The hold wasn't firm,...
Xavier,
As far as I know, Minoru Mochizuki didn't do much at all with tanto. His son, Hiroo, created the Happo Tanto no Kata and uses it as one of the core teaching forms to convey his principle...
My thoughts, too.

While the birth of Yoseikan Budo in the United States is often credited to Sadayuki Demizu, son-in-law of Minoru Mochizuki, that credit really belongs solely to Patrick Auge.
Demizu Sensei taught...
???
I'm afraid you lost me with the turtle reference.
David
I believe the menkyo kaiden Mochizuki Sensei awarded also included "yoseikan gyokushin jujutsu".
Now, concerning "yoseikan budo" that name will probably always be a source of problems and...
I'm afraid the American view of Yoseikan and Minoru Mochizuki's influence is very narrow. We tend to know only about students who came from Sadayuki Demizu's instruction and little else. Even though...
Giacomo,
Luigi Carniel is a very good man and a real expert in the arts of Minoru Mochizuki. He's based in Switzerland. He was very comfortable in the old hombu and had a long relationship with...
Well, isn't that what I said? Judo was superior at throwing but the old-style jujutsu beat them when it came to ground work?
David
Dan, I've always heard that judo was proven far more effective and efficient in the throwing techniques but that the extant jujutsu schools of the day proved better on the ground.
David
Nathan, though you address the above comment to Dan, you do so under the identity of "we all," which I think would have to include me. So I will say I don't get that feeling from Dan's posts at all....
It USED to be the norm. Post war, that has changed.
It is the old standard. In the old days, the pool had no shallow end.
Best to you.

Still, a given person with "ordinary" intense training will go much further through similarly intense training in the internal methods.
