The Jikishin-Kai version is apparently included in the upcoming DVDs produced by Black Belt Magazine. Maybe in the new edition of "Flashing Steel" also. (I don't remember if these waza are in the...
I very much agree. These videos are supposedly available on DVD now.
I mean with the exception of Iwata sensei. I mean people like the late
Takeshima sensei and other senior teachers currently...
I was introduced to these sets on seminars with Tose-sensei of IMAF.
Can't say I practice them regularly, but as my knees have been bad it
has been part of my standing waza practice. Getting slowly...
It is very sad news indeed. Unfortunately I have seen very little of the genuine Kochi style MJER, either live or on film. If that situation will change anytime soon remains to be seen.

Just a few days after this event was over (sadly couldn't attend this time, either) I received the DVD from the first one ;-)
It will be interesting to see some more of my original school of iai...
I do practice MJER to the best of my ability (and used to do Mugai Ryu also
- but my technique sucks as I have forgotten more about this school than a
lot of people!). Not many of us over here of...
I'm looking into ways of being able to go for this event,
at least for a visit and hopefully some of the seminars.

MJER (with a background in Mugai Ryu)
Sweden
In the nearly 20 years I've known Fay Sensei, I've never managed to make her do that ;-)
It was much too long since I last had a chance to see her in person as well.

Hi,
This never happened to me, even though I've experienced some pretty hard contact (strictly tanjo vs bokken kata practice), though I don't train in Uchida Ryu tanjojutsu as often as I should....
Hi Patrick,
Hopefully there will be photos and stuff on it later.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to view the "Slice of Japan"
documentary, or learn if or when it will become available on ...
Hi,
Masamune Dojo in Birmingham (UK), under the leadership
of Fay Goodman, Nanadan Renshi Iaido, a favorite Sensei
and good friend for more than 15 years, now have a dojo
web site (re-designed)...
Tried it on another Mac. This time it works. Interesting, though
I'm not much into tameshigiri myself.

I would like to learn more about the techniques of Tosei Ryu Tanjo.

Hi,
I've only seen a few unarmed applications of MJER (and none in my original school, Mugai-ryu). Having learned sword applications of
some of the waza in Hakko Ryu Jujutsu, I'm experimenting a...
Can't access these videos on my work Mac. Strange as it has worked with earlier ones.

Whether or not that claim is true, I don't really know and had no reason to doubt as it was never emphasized on any seminar I have attended over the years.
However, Yamaue Sensei is pretty good...
Unfortunately I don't have much information about this senior student of Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu, either.
In the 1930's, up until around 1936, he was the DR teacher of Okuyama Yoshiharu (Yoshiji)...

Hi,
I'm searching for historical footage of Hakko Ryu in Japan. Shodai Soke and a few of the Japanese Shihan who influenced the development of Hakko Ryu in Europe would be interesting to see in...
Hi,
Some sources claim it is from Mugai Ryu (a standing version of Ren perhaps?), though possibly a combination of MJER and Mugai Ryu kata, both from seiza into a standing form is the answer. We'll...
Hi,
Sinister farewell or farewell visit is one version of the translation for these techniques that I have seen.

Hobbs Sensei,
Please drop me a line as I'd like to get back in touch.

I haven't heard anything about Quero Sensei for ages. The art of Wa-Jutsu is derived from his Hakko Ryu background (having received Shihan training at the Honbu) combined with other (for me less...
Hi,
There are also a few different versions of the Bangai
set (which are not kata in the strictest sense anyway).
