umm, that would be 'mei'. Looks like a good signature. Sorry, can't help, but you might look here or ask here. Good luck.

interesting, but several errors or omissions. We do eight main noto, with one variation, plus one from one of the kata which somehow is not counted in the eight(nine) plus two from another style,...
not bad, actually. measured approach, smooth cut, nice angle and hasuji, not too much shoulder. Definitely agree with Ken, don't stick your thumb and finger out during noto.

terms again. and context, maybe. there are a finite number of antique nihonto, and an even smaller number of those worth collecting. but nihonto are being made today as we speak, by smiths...
not sure where you are getting your price info, but nihonto prices are not that extreme. Was in Japan last week, one of my students bought a blade from an award winning smith for about $5600. ...
when the student is ready ....
I was stationed in Japan. (having spent many years in open hand arts)
style 1 - My language teacher invited me to visit his dojo. I was hooked immediately.
style...
the main dojo is in Yokohama, and there are branches and affiliated federations dojo throughout Japan (and several outside of Japan). If you PM me with where you might visit, I can ask if there is a...
Darn, guess I've been wasting my time. :) So, if the soke' of a rare koryu, along with the designated heir of the style and several senior teachers, offer to share some of their history,...
I attended the seminar. excellent stuff. if you look down the page on the link you sent, every session had a short lecture, then training. The instructors were very generous and helpful, the...
Thomas, this thread is seven years old. Not sure any of the original posters are still around, or that the info is still good. In any case, Shimabukuro sensei of the Jikishinkai studies and teaches...

yep, forgot about that. We'll have to do that for an embu sometime. Hey, our seniors are telling me to look at doing a tai kai in DC in 2011. Like I don't have enough grey hair. :)
Dave
Have seen those but not trained in them. Hataya-sensei does a variety of stuff outside of the 'normal' Toyama curriculum. We could ask one of the Florida Toyama guys to come over. At a recent tai...
Thanks, David, I'd like that.

I train in Nakamura-Ryu under the Kakuseikai, hombu dojo founded by Nakamura-sensei. Will actually be in Japan next week, to train and attend our annual tai kai in Yokohama, at the Tsurumi sports...
I had ACL reconstruction several years ago, train regularly in koryu, have for many years. Not very happy in seiza, knee does quite bend all the way, but hey, if it was easy, anyone could do it.

just for info, the poster over on kendoworld emailed me. I tried to answer some of it, but he was not very specific and has not answered my reply.
oh well.

no problem. If we ever get a chance to compare notes (swing swords), would be happy to. Have a couple of similar projects floating around out there. Someone in your neck of the woods wanted to do...
you might look at Tozando.com and Nishijin.com . Both have lots of choices, some good pics to help distinguish style differences, and they usually have some stuff on sale.

Bruce,
whether it coincides or not, I don't think it would be much help. Lots of folks doing lots of different variations of the Toyama forms. No surprise that it may have spread to Korea. ...
either art can be pricey, both together will be more so. Best to find out what is available first. You may have limited or no options. Many kendo groups also do iai, so you may find it in the...
cannot speak with Guy's scholarly knowledge, but as I understand it, the western sword/saber (kyugunto) was an artifact of the Meiji period. As the Taisho and then Showa emperors came to power, the...
Yep. Actually, I think a bunch of JSA folks get overly impressed with it too.
Dave
no it is not, and that was not the implication of Jason's post, IMO. Cutting is application, physical feedback Actual experiential contact. Not the point, not the goal, just training.
Dave
hmmm. profound errors indeed, lots of preconceptions. What do you currently train in? What contact have you had with Toyama Ryu? Lots of folks out there doing something they call Toyama, or forms...
