True. I have, at times, considered making some sort of a chart myself, but then there's the problem that who really taught e.g. Matsumura? I'd have to rely on "folklore" and I don't like to do that....

Interesting chart. However, I do see at least one error in there, which is kind of my pet peeve. Kyan did not study karate with Itosu, despite the (very) popular claim that he did. Kyan's teachers...
Did I hear him correctly: "okinawan cuts"? WTF?
Well, I always have fun watching this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24SKbTD1QnU To this day I'm not sure if these guys are serious, or are they just joking? I hope they are joking :)
Well, it kind of depends. I see the value of it in one sequence in Gojushiho, but don't know about others
Master? Hmmm, guess never, although I do refer to Zenpo Shimabukuro as o-sensei.
That is very true, unfortunately. From what I've understood after discussing this with people with more experience, there doesn't seem to be much evidence either way of existence (or non-existence)...
My guess is from Azato. Azato, was after all, the "heir" to Matsumura's karate.
I agree, Matsumura almost certainly had Seisan
Which is very curious if he indeed was taught by Matsumura's grandson, as he claimed.
Another reason I have heard is that Soken was...
If that is so, then why isn't there a "Itosu Seisan"? If I remember correctly, most (if not all) Shorin ryu of Itosu lineage don't have Seisan at all
No problem. There were at least two federations mentioned in the list too, but I didn't include those as there was no mention of the style
There is also a finnish off-shoot from Renshinkan, but I...
This style has some off-shoots. Here's what I know of (from a list compiled by other finnish ex-Renshinkan practitioners):
Shorinryu Joshinmon, founded by Hoshu Ikeda
Ryukyu Shorinryu...
I've been trying to understand what the woman said when the reporter asked "so if we got rid of police, we wouldn't have crime?"
I must say that I like this version of Kyan lineage much better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFSnV7s_5i0
Does anybody happen to have Ashida Kim videos? Every once in a while it would good for a laugh to watch those :) There are some on YouTube, but not much! I would especially love to see his "ninja...
Interesting discussion here. My advice, our actually our sensei gave us this advice once, is to tell the people to imagine they are bowing to cross or whatever. Mokuso troubling them? Tell those to...
Like Martin said, there aren't any universial rules. How we do depends on who is teaching. If sensei himself is present, we line up, with black belts to the right, in ascending order. The senior...
Most likely yes :) Our style is in Kyan lineage, but the Pinan kata might have come from a Itosu lineage style that our sensei's sensei practised when he was younger
In our style (Kokusai Shorinji ryu) we are taught the Pinan kata
Just goes to show that there is something wrong in you ;)
Yep, I've seen this happen first-hand :) Don't exactly know how or what my sensei was taught by his own sensei but it had evolved into something that was quite different from the "main line"
Try this... Load a picture of yourself into the program and it will tell you which celebrities you look like the most
My results varied depending on whether I let the computer crop my image or if...
Here's the latest picture of me. Taken during a weekend camp. I'm the one being beat up by my sensei :karatekid
Next to you everyone looks normal ;)
Have you guys seen this ?
