Paging Kimleng Brown

Hiya!

I noticed that there were two katas I didn't recognise in your MSR Oku Iai listing on the Elite Edge website: Oikakegiri and Ryoshi Hikitsure.

I know that there was a kata I used to do while living in Chiba from the Okeden Tachiwaza series which I don't do now under another teacher and was wondering if it was one of these two.

Could you give a rough description of the katas please and does anyone else incorporate them into their system?

Many thanks

Hello.
Unfortunately I am relatively new, so I have only learned seiteigata, the shoden set and part of the chuden set. A better person to ask might be Ric Flinn. He is also in my dojo and I think he may know these. I will try to ask my sensei about them tommorow. If I had to make my best guess, I think that the person who made the website grouped the 3 suwari seiza kata with the tachi waza under their alternate names. Also, you might want to check out http://www.gsadojo.com/iaido2.htm and see if your kata is in one of their videos. Sorry I could not help much yet, but I hope I was of at least some assistance.

Isn't this the gentleman that was demonstrating karate in the Budo: The Art of Killing documentary?

Yes, I believe he is. Sensei shows that video all the time when we are waiting for class to start and on weekends. It is a dojo favorite.

I can't help either, I have no idea what those two kata are. I haven't learned many okuden kata yet myself, and honestly I never look at our website, so I didn't even know those were listed. Have to ask sensei about it.

And yeah, that's the guy from "Budo."
