Thread: What gets you up in the morning?

Default What gets you up in the morning?

What an awesome morning! Summer in Wyoming is Heaven! I have just come back from my morning run and now I'm sipping my cup of coffee, getting ready for another day.

We train tonight- and I can't wait.

On Saturday, I got to my first polo game in 6 years. I had forgotten that rush...riding at 20 MPH, horse flattened out, stretching out for the ball, WHACK! and watching it fly ahead. Listening for the other riders trying to chase you...you and your horse, working as one unit.

Time changes in those moments. Your mind opens as you focus on one point - the ball, and you focus on everything else- the field. Martial arts on a high level is the same. When I was practicing karate, we used to do drills where you were attacked consecutively by 10 people, then simultaneously by 10 people. It is the same rush.

Since I have started a new art (Bujinkan), I've had to restart at the bottom (lookin' at the feet) and work up through the drills. I forgot the feeling that can be gotten with high level training. Saturday's polo match reminded me

It is the search for that feeling that motivates me in 90% of what I do. What motivates you in the martial arts? What gets you up in the morning and says - "Hey- it's monday. I get to train today!"?

Good for you, Wendy! What gets me up in the morning are two dogs pawsing at my face wanting to be fed, and a wonderful woman kicking me in the butt and shoving me out from under the blankets.

What keeps me training? I'm not sure I can put it into words! It started out as self-defense and exercise and has grown into... love?

Up in the morning? I'm still trying to get used to sleeping at night, not easy for an old guy with insomnia and 10 years on midnight to eight. I lie awake all night, then drag myself out of bed, tired and crabby. But, I get to hang out at the gym all day, cool.

Wendy, polo! That's great. I promised my daughter we would let her try it when we move. I have to bribe her some how.

It's so bad you had to take up martial arts? What, just to get out of the house?

    Yes...*cries*

It's the only thing that makes me motivated in the morning to get out of bed.

I wish i was joking...she thinks it's hilarious, but i spose i do my fair share to.

I tell you what makes me want to train is when i watch a movie and i see a really cool move and i will go outside and try it for hours on end, same goes for when i see something amazing and i want to have that too.

I've spent the past 2 years getting my forearms to look exactly like Bruce Lee's.

What gets me up in the morning. That indescrible pressure on the wall of my bladder telling me if I don't get up and out of bed soon it'll burst all over my sheets or down the corridor on the way to the little boys room!

What keeps me training... The fact that my sensei may just spring something on me and I end up tit over arse!

    Someone has too.

As for what keeps me training ......... Just knowing that I can find another aspect of life while I do. Life is Karate and Karate is life.

Being here in Japan I find the training atmosephere so full that it is just great to know that today is the day ....... I get to practice. I get to focus on one thing and I can shut out the rest. Also I get taught a lot.

Just some of the reasons I keep on going.

    Talking my WONDERFUL WIFE!

I have the best wife in the world she has given a treasure beyond anything I could have acheived on my own. Here is a list

    1) My kids
    2) Showing me how to love
3)Training me how to lift a toilet seat
4)Teaching me that farting in church is not funny
5)Coaching me on buying presents for her
6)Stearing me away from the biker slu__s and toward the religous ones
7)Telling my how to live my life
8)Informing me that underwear are dirty after one use not weekly use
9)Helping me learn that laundry should not be a cramming thing but a color thing
10)Most of all Loving me for everything that I have done both good bad or indiferrent.

    My Alarm Clock.

    Alarm Clocks

"When Dawn strides out to wake a dewy farm
Across green fields and yellow hills of hay
The little twittering birds laugh in his way
And poise triumphant on his shining arm.
He bears a sword of flame but not to harm
The wakened life that feels his quickening sway
And barnyard voices shrilling "It is day!"
Take by his grace a new and alien charm.

But in the city, like a wounded thing
That limps to cover from the angry chase,
He steals down streets where sickly arc-lights sing,
    And wanly mock his young and shameful face;
And tiny gongs with cruel fervor ring
In many a high and dreary sleeping place."
    ~Joyce Kilmer

Luckily the summer holiday season has come and I can kill the old bastard and sleep as long as I wish!

What a beautiful summer it is going to be! I hope you all have a good summer! Ah...

    Cheers,

    Default My wife

My wife gets me up in the morning.

Wha...wait...that's isn't what I meant. Wait...no, of course honey, I do find you attractive...no...wait...I just meant...

Actually, I have slept through an explosion, so it is my wife who gets me up in the morning.
