We are having a battle of half wits, on another thread. It's made me think. That, and in my new private sector career, I haven't rolled on anyone in almost a year. It is like a paid vacation. I don't even get into pi$$ing contests anymore. However...

At some point in your career, every LEO realizes, most confrontations can be talked down, and resolved. Sure, some situations go south. On reflection, we realize it is often our fault.

Getting past that, there is that one in a hundred guy that just isn't going to play nice. Eventually, you learn to start the fight on your terms, control. The problem is, people, spectators, rookies, the press, get really upset when you start fights. Then you learn how to crank someone up, set them off, commit them to rash decisions, without getting caught. Not saying it is right, but if there is going to be a fight, someone is getting hurt. It shouldn't have to be the good guys. Control the fight.
