    Default cash

My only advice is to have lots of disposable cash handy, because the cost of things are steep. Going rate for one Asahi super dry was baout $5 a bottle in a cheap bar. As far as where to stay, that's totally up to you. I would also suggest, if you have the opportunity and time, to visit both Kamakura and Kyoto.

    Gary,

I highly recommend staying in Kashiwa at the Kashiwa Plaza. Double rooms are 10,000 a night, so 50 bucks a person. The rooms are clean and simple, WITH bathrooms.

Kashiwa is convient to Noda, jump right on the Tobu-Noda for 35-40 min to Atago. Since, I assume, you'll be hitting a lot of training at shihan's dojo (Ayase too) then it's nice to be a bit more centrally located.

The only thing to be aware of is that the hotel does not take credit cards. Don't expect a great deal of English from the staff, but it's enough to get the job done.
