    Default Yoshin koryu Jujutsu

    Hello,

while reading the bio of Sugino Yoshio sensei I came across the name of his Jujutsu teacher: Genro Kanaya. Sugino sensei studied "Yoshin koryu" from him according to an interview with him on aikijournal.com . Genro Kanaya is said to be a high ranked intructor of the Butokukai.

After some google search I read a wikipedia entry about "Yoshin ryu":

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y%C5%8Dshin_Kory%C5%AB

    Here I found this:

"This school survived 11 generations. The last fully licensed actively teaching instructor of Yoshin Koryu ryu jujutsu was Kanaya Motoyoshi who died in the early 20th century. With his death the Yoshin Koryu jujutsu school lost transmission and no longer exists. Densho were apparently passed on to a 12th generation headmaster but the waza are no longer practiced."

So, I´m a bit curious about but are Kanaya Motoyoshi and Kanaya Genro related to each other? Maybe father and son?

Sugino-sensei started his training in Yoshin koryu around 1925. So, what happened here? Does somebody know which development took place after this?

    Best,

A POST from Toby Threadgill which explicates the history. Apparently Motoyoshi and Genro were the same person.

Thanks for that Ellis, it was very interesting!
Toby's done a ton of work researching Yoshin ryu. Wish he still posted here.
