Japanese Prints at Carnegie Museum of Art Pittsburgh

The Carnegie Museum of Art has a very nice display of Japanese Prints. These are more modern than last time (1912-2022). Some are classical in style and subject. Japanese landscapes, beautiful women, Japanese actors etc. Some are very modern including abstract art and a print of Pittsburgh. If you are traveling any distance check first because they have three sets of prints and when they change prints the exhibit is closed. Museum is still nice but I think they only have about half a dozen pieces from Asia in other displays. Respectfully, Len McCoy

Sounds like a nice collection. Do they have any of Kuniyoshi's 47 Ronin series? It's nice to see actual early run prints from the artist's blocks. Also, works of other popular artists of the day, like Hokusai and Hiroshige.
The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston has an excellent collection, too.

Hi Cady, The prints in this show are all more modern than Hokusai, Kuniyoshi and Hiroshinge etc. A number of years ago they had a show with more classical works. They have a fairly large collection overall but for whatever reason they only put them on display infrequently so no 47 Ronin this time. In fact I don't remember any samurai in this set.Respectfully, Len McCoy

Ah. My eyes seem to have skipped over the dates you provided!
However, I would love to see an exhibit of prints by Yoshitoshi Mori and some of his contemporaries. who would fall within that time frame. I'll have to see what the Carnegie Museum of Art.
