    Default Gekisai Sho

Since I am getting some great answers let me ask another question. Is Gekisai sho just found in Kyokushinkai. I have seen a Goju Gekisai dai ichi and ni but never a sho. Thanks, Len McCoy

    Hi.

Didn't know the Gekisai katas was in the Kyukushin curriculum, perhaps they were added later ?
If there is a ”sho” then there should be a ”dai” also ? Could be the same as Goju-ryu's 1 and 2/ichi and ni ?

I learned Kyokushinkai Gekisai Dai back 1983-84. My sensei was under Shigeru Oyama before he split with Mas Oyama. I know as Shigeru Oyama developed World Oyama he dropped some classical kata and added some of his own that were more practical in his view. I learned Matsubayashi Fukyu ni in 86-87 on Okinawa. These kata are essentially the same and although I never trained in Goju I can fairly say they are Goju Gekisai Dai ichi. Gekisai sho is definitely not Gekisai dai ni. However I know some Kyokushinkai kata like Tsuki no Kata is only in one branch of Goju. I never would have know that without some help from ebudo. Happy New Year, Len McCoy
